New York, USA - A Taste of Tantz, the official launch of Tantz catering in the form of an elegant Jardin Soirée at Garden 54 in Brooklyn, New York, was the place to be whether you were already down with the cooking of Marcia Arcia better known as “Tantz” - or about ready to be newly-introduced to her ‘sweet hand.’ It was also the place to catch the stage side of Pantonic Steel Orchestra’s scintillating delivery in steel of hot soca hits like “Bacchanalist” for the better part of an hour, as the group entertained guests sipping on cool and colorful drinks while comfortably ensconced on a lush lawn dotted with tables and chairs.  Pantonic put the finishing touch on that authentic Caribbean feel, vibe and atmosphere in the urban Brooklyn setting.

“Hailing from a long line of much-loved family cooks in the Mayaro area of Trinidad, and excelling in traditional Caribbean foods - back in her home country Ms. Arcia was also revered for her famed “river lime” cuisine, where, on outings with friends and family, the cooking is done on the banks of the river to accompany what is always a day of great fun. And it is in part this aspect that “Tantz” has elevated to an art. But the gracious culinary matron also focuses on the added value of communal interaction, through the camaraderie of enjoying great food. Similar to the mandate of Pantonic Steel Orchestra which engenders communal and social well being through its musical outreach, “Tantz” emphasizes the very same through the delicious and healthy culinary fare with which she has been regaling New York for three years. The Jardin Soirée was the formal ‘coming out party’ for her much-in-demand catering acumen.

“It’s like a sense of community, a sense of – you know – ‘let’s connect’,” explains one of the evening’s hostesses, Dalia Slamming. And three of Tantz’ best-known dishes over which connoisseurs do just that – commune and connect – are Bourbon Meatballs, Tropical Shrimp and Curry Crab & Dumpling. “If you eat something that you ate when you were five [years old], you remember sitting at the dinner table with your family” said Dalia, “It definitely brings you back to that time in your life. She (“Tantz”) wants to recapture those moments, while taking the Caribbean food, the home-cooking or ‘river lime’ food as we know it, to the next level.” “Tantz’” catering evokes the memories and experiences of mouth-watering but healthy culinary fare synonymous with fabulous West Indian cooking, which “Tantz” infuses in her signature manner with Asian flavor.

The simmering afternoon heat of the last Saturday in June, Pantonic’s sizzling musical fare, and sumptuous cuisine were all pleasantly cooled off by the utilization of eye-catching hues of the colors of the traditional peacock. A décor infused with shades of greens and blues and purples set on the backdrop of a green lawn, and hostesses attired in snazzy peacock-themed summer dresses, greeted guests as they kept coming in to be part of the classy affair which provided a six-hour window of opportunity to partake in a “Taste of Tantz” during the beautiful and high-end Jardin Soirée.
