- On
November 23,
2006 Nigeria
held its
inaugural
Secondary
School Steel
Band
Competition. Almost
one year
earlier had
been the
opening of “Panland,”
Nigeria's steelpan factory and an electroplating plant for chroming steelpan
instruments. Then on November 24, the day after the
school panorama, Panland was officially commissioned.
Panland also
accommodates
a digital
and analog
studio big
enough to
facilitate a
steel
orchestra.
It also has
a visual
studio from
where a
television
programme,
PAN AROUND
DE WORLD
would be
aired very
soon.
The Nigeria
annual
National
Schools
Steelband
Competition
is part of
the steelpan
movement
throughout
the African
continent.
Look for
Panland to
continue to
spearhead
other
steelpan
activities
in Nigeria.
