Reigning 'medium' conventional steelband champions Silver Stars Steel Orchestra pan players are looking to retain their title for the 2005 Panorama season. So says arranger Edwin Pouchet during an interview with When Steel Talks. Pouchet is confident of his band's upcoming performance beginning at the preliminary stage on Friday 14 January, and said that the players are very upbeat. They fully expect to make it to winners' row once again at the finals on Saturday February 5, 2005 at the Queen's Park Savannah. The band's tune of choice is "Frenzy" sung by veteran performer Denyse Plummer. Pouchet made a point that "Frenzy" was a 2005 composition and not a selection from past years.
The governing body for pan, Pan Trinbago, revised the rules to allow inclusion of music from past years. The Silver Stars' arranger is one of those in opposition to this decision, citing repetitiveness of structure of other Pan events held during the year, which already focus on "back in times" selections. Pouchet also mentioned that other bands which chose to go with older selections for the 2005 Panorama season, had begun their arrangements as early as August 2004. This was an unfair advantage as far as he was concerned. But whatever the differences, that Silver Stars will be a force to be reckoned with in the 2005 medium conventional band category - is a certainty. Preliminary judging begins in pan yards on January 13.
