Mark “Oscar” Roberts,
is a long-time member of Desperadoes Steel Orchestra
(1970 to present). While he started composing in 1991,
his first formal production was in 2006, with Clive
Gone, honoring the memory of the band’s master
arranger Clive “Brados” Bradley who passed away in
November of the previous year; the track was vocalized
by Brache.
With the passing of another iconic Desperado - legendary
9-bass player Frank “Crawl” Findley - in 2008, Roberts
once again put pen to paper, added music and came up
with Celebrating Crawl, this time with Chucky
doing the vocal work.
For 2010, Mark Roberts has
chosen to focus on a pressing social issue and tackles
head-on, the problem afflicting his beloved community -
Laventille. The result is the track Pow Pow, Doi Doi
(Bad Boy). And Roberts himself gives voice to the
song, further personalizing the piece.
