LYRICSVerse 1
Pan music,
created out of rhythm
With a musical flow,
Started to grow
from deep within
Reaching out and holding on to ah
melody
They embrace, while creating ah
harmony
Nursing on
the sound of the calypso
With classics and jazz and new
rhythms,
It start to grow
From a single tenor pan to an
orchestra
It’s amazing, how the steel pan has
come so far.
Chorus
Yuh hear D’
rhythm, Yuh hear D’ rhythm,
Yuh hear D’ rhythm, D’ rhythm of the
pan
Yuh hear D’ rhythm, Yuh feel D’
rhythm,
Yuh get the rhythm coming out of the
steelband
Pan has a rhythm that will excite
you,
Every time, yuh hear them phrasing
together,
Puh tum tum tum, Pum tum tum tum,
Pum tum tum tum, Tum tuh tum......
Yuh hear D’ rhythm, Yuh hear D’
rhythm,
Yuh hear D’ rhythm, D’ rhythm of the
pan
Yuh touch D’ rhythm, Yuh feel D’
rhythm,
Yuh get the rhythm coming out of the
steelband
Pan has a rhythm that will embrace
you,
With the sound, of a musical feeling
coming,
From ah band,
It’s the Rhythm of the pan.
Verse 2
Now the pan
could play almost anyting,
It could sound like ah harp, ah
xylophone or violin,
Syncopate ah guitar strum or ah
tenor roll,
And they say, it’s the eighth wonder
of the world
Chorus (repeat)

Dexter Keane
In 1971 at the age of six, Dexter Keane was the youngest member of the T&TEC Power Stars Steelband. Dexter recalls having to be placed on a wooden crate to enable him to play the tenor pan.
In 1974 Dexter migrated to the United States with his parents. Soon he became a member of the Maryland Pacesetters Steel Orchestra, playing several in the steelpan family of instruments and also drumming.
Through the years, Dexter has been part of such music organizations like Maryland-based Glass Productions, T&T Baltimore and Maryland Pacesetters Steel Orchestras, Phase Three Pan Ensemble - and the Uprising Reggae Band as their drummer and lead vocalist when the band’s drummer departed.
With Uprising, he traveled the U.S., opening for Reggae superstars such as Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff, EeK-a-mouse, the Wailers, The Itals, Third World and Yellowman.
Dexter composed and performed his song Zhess back in 2011, while Anchors Away thrilled fans in 2015.
He is back in the saddle for the 2017 Panorama season on this track composed by Emanuel Ector and Gerard Ector, Rhythm Of The Pan.
