- In support of the Invaders Steel
Orchestra’s plight to secure its panyard at 147 Tragarete Road,
Woodbrook, the Laventille Steelband Festival Committee has made the
unprecedented decision to include this pan icon into the street
parade on Sunday 5th August 2007.
As a show of solidarity, the Northern Region of Pantrinbago is
calling upon all steelbands to display messages in support of
Invaders remaining at its panyard.
The Laventille Steelband Festival Street Parade is the nation’s
largest Steelband event outside of Carnival and is strongly
community based. Over forty (40) Laventille based steelbands in the
large, medium and small category will take their position on the
Eastern Main Road to belt out the best of their repertoire for
thousands of culture lovers. The festival starts at 3:30pm with “The
Story of Emancipation” followed by the steelband parade, where bands
proceed through the streets without any automotive assistance, and
ends at midnight.
The management of Caribbean Airlines Invaders extends an invitation
to the public to join them on the road in support of their plea for
land ownership. Invaders is the world’s oldest existing steel
orchestra. They are one of the few steelbands that presently occupy
its original panyard and is the recipient of one of Trinidad and
Tobago’s highest national award, The Chaconia Medal (Gold).
