LYRICS |
|
Verse 1
Who feel dey know,
all de Panorama dynamics A to Z
Dat status quo,
Going to take a
beating from we, yes we
We going to rock de rafters,
Full dem with joy and laughter
With an original melody
We come out here,
With a brand new flavour to sweeten up de lime
Pan pioneers, we go change de entire
paradigm
We breaking old traditions, and
familiar vibrations
A spunky new feeling, classy and
appealing
Send de Grand Stand reeling
PAN! PAN! PAN! PAN!
OUTTA DE, OUTTA DE
OUTTA DE BOX, WE GO ROCK IT.
Chorus
We jumping off de
stage, rocking town and village
Outta de box we on de pan stage
Different but still in groove,
Pan
man go love we move
Outta de box dey go welcome and
approve
Rama, pool party setting
Dis time, we doing de wetting
Oil barrel, new music we go spill
(Outta de box) Repeat
Verse 2
All things renew,
Dat is how nature does unfold in
front of we
What we should do,
Leave we options
open and free, yes free
But some confusing history, going in
pan cemetery
To dig up old pan melodies
Every new year,
Bringing plenty more
selections for we to choose
So is not fair, yuh giving dem
composers plenty blues
Someone tell Pan Trinbago, is time
to hold de retro
Only brand new standards, could
light up de big yard
Have de Grand Stand bawling
PAN! PAN! PAN! PAN!
OUTTA DE, OUTTA DE
OUTTA DE BOX, WE GO ROCK IT.
Chorus
_________________
Bridge
In this modern day time
(Just cool de retro) x 3
(improvised vocals)
Outta de box we coming,
Hear how we
barrel humming
Tenor to bass pan strumming
Brand new style, full of melody,
fresh as a daisy
OUT….OF….DE….BOX!
Verse 3
Meet we in town,
And de music go put all things in
perspective
Doh play too long,
Eight minutes is
all dat dem judges give
And if yuh large or medium,
Doh
bring de whole village, come
Because is not a numbers game
All who retro,
Going back for old
songs to try and win appeal
Just let dem know,
Dat dey really
cyar re-invent de wheel
We close dat history chapter,
It
done sealed and delivered
Better try a fresh thing,
Like dis
brand new offering
Have de Grand Stand shouting:
PAN! PAN! PAN! PAN!
OUTTA DE, OUTTA DE
OUTTA DE BOX, WE GO ROCK IT
Chorus

Outta De Box is the first
collaboration
between Seion Gomez
and Mark Loquan, and Seion’s
first step as a
composer/arranger.
Seion had already
arranged several of
Mark’s songs over
the years, so the
collaboration was
not an unexpected
development. As fate
would have it, with
both now on the
opposite sides of
the globe (with Mark
now based in
Australia), the two
would venture in the
studio, co-composing
Outta De Box.
A reunion with the
energetic Shanaqua,
was also not
unnatural as she
performed Mark’s
offering in 2000,
“Passion for Pan.”
The
song lyrics by
Gregory “GB”
Ballantyne, captured
the theme of going
out of the box,
stepping out of the
crease with
something new. Most
bands look for
something different,
some way to
differentiate
themselves, to do or
say something new,
to take some risks.
Here the team set
out on a fresh
melody and to take
some risks. One can
even hear
improvising in the
bridge and the
trumpet soloing at
the end of the song
adding to the
difference from most
songs offered for
the Panorama season.
Junior “Ibo” Joseph
produced the song,
feeling the song as
Outta De Box
from the very
beginning, with
great vibes in the
team involved. |

Rachel “Shanaqua”
Fortune
|
|
Shanaqua (Goddess of
the Water) started
her musical career
at the tender age of
fourteen when
she was lead female
performance artiste
with the now
legendary Machel
Montano’s first
music band Pranasonic Express.
Having “cut her
professional teeth”
with the band, she
moved on performing
under the name
Rachel Fortune,
traveling,
performing and
spreading the
culture of Trinidad
and Tobago as far as
Hong Kong.
Shanaqua is a
professional
recording and
performing artiste
who has also
recorded with
Jamaican artiste
Lloyd Lovindeer and
provided background
vocals for a number
of local artistes.
Her repertoire
includes, Calypso,
Jazz, Soca, Parang
and Yoruba Spiritual
Music. Shanaqua has
a number of
recordings to her
belt to date.
