Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Young musician Rudo Forteau will be presented to the music world as the new Panorama arranger of Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille, tonight (Wednesday February 1st) when the band takes the spotlight in the preliminaries of the medium conventional band category of the 2017 National Panorama.
He fills the position vacated by Ken “Professor” Philmore who took the band to back-to-back victories in 2007 and 2008 respectively. The winning selections were Johnny sung by Colleen Ella followed by Hook vocalised by Destra Garcia.
Appearing in position number two on tonight’s programme conceptualised and produced by Pan Trinbago, the band will render its tune-of-choice titled Dangerous, composed by Mark Loquan and Philmore. Colin Lucas and Anslem Douglas were responsible for the vocals for this music item.
It’s exactly nine years since the band last won a title in the competition and captain Kern John is expressing confidence in Forteau’s ability to restore the fortunes of Sound Specialists of Laventille.
While Forteau is new to the role as the Panorama music director, he has, however, for years been a significant contributor to the band’s year-round musical outpouring and has been a principal member of the band since his pre-teen years, more than two decades ago.
“He came up the ranks from being an ordinary player. He learnt his music. He studied well and we believe that he will give us justice at the competition,” said John.
Asked what influenced the band’s decision to choose Dangerous as its tune-of-choice for Panorama 2017, John recalled the members of Sound Specialists of Laventille wanted to tackle a composition that mirrored the style of Philmore, which they did not get a chance to play during under his musical direction.
